Job Description
The medical director goal is to ensure all clinical programs
are safe and appropriate to the patients' specific issues, drug of choice, and
medical history. The medical director will direct and coordinate medical
(psychiatry) services and care with other areas of the organization while
making reasonable accommodations to ensure patients are safe and comfortable as
possible during their stay.They understand that they can
strongly influence the patient's outcomes by building a trusting relationship
and helping them change behaviors. In addition, the goal for the MD will be to
increasingly manage day-to-day clinical operations to improve the financial
performance of the center, in partnership with the Clinical Director, CEO and
COO.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide psychiatric
services, including psychiatric assessments and medication management.
- Provide office-based
opiate detoxification and maintenance services.
- Respond to patient
crises and emergencies as needed.
- Document developments
and important events in accordance with clinical policies for reporting
and record keeping.
- Participate in staff
meetings, case conferences, and required training to ensure continuum and
quality of care.
- Project a professional
image to the public.
- Works effectively with the facility leadership team to
ensure success of the facility by completing the following: Leads the
medical team in providing excellent medical care with the PHFL treatment
philosophy. This includes knowledge of medications, assessment for
medication complications, detoxification protocols and prescribing
medications in general and works diligently to support and maintain the
corporate values associated with such programs.
- Will work with the Director of Nursing in all aspects of
the PHFL Medical Department functions, workforce management, training, and
roles
- Keep current on ASAM criteria. Distribute and educate
information to the medical staff.
- Assist the DON with planning and budgeting for medical
services while maintaining effective and efficient staffing patterns
within budgetary constraints.
- Ensures that medical (psychiatry) services are
coordinated and integrated with other patient care services to ensure
continuity of care for each patient.
- Assist the DON in the development and maintenance of
written objectives, policies, a procedure manual, an organization plan and
a quality assurance programs for medical services, and review of all
medical policies and procedures at least annually across all facilities.
- Works closely with the DON in ongoing review and
updating of patient care standards.
- Use Welligent and its
components effectively, maintaining accurate and timely documentation.
- Demonstrates proficiency using the electronic health
record with all required documentation. ensuring compliance with all
company policies and procedures, state regulation, and CARF standards.
These records will be completed and authenticated in a timely manner per
policy. This includes but is not limited to the following electronic
record documents: Psychiatric Evaluation and/or Admission History,
Physical Evaluation, Medical Progress Notes, Discharge Summary, and
Orders.

- Availability and accessibility to build trust from their
patients.
- The MD remains updated on evidence-based medicine, but
also recognizes that factors outside of traditional medicine, like
lifestyle and nutrition, have a large impact on patient health outcomes.
- The MD stays up to date on clinical, nutritional, and
lifestyle-based interventions to improve outcomes. Our patients deserve
the highest quality of care. This requires a willingness to work with the
teams towards achieving high quality outcomes and quality measures.
- MD must competently and compassionately influence their
patients, their teams, and themselves to achieve the best outcomes
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite products including
Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook, plus a variety of other
word-processing, spreadsheet, database, e-mail and presentation software
as used in the company
- Perform complete history, psychiatric and/or physical
examination to each new patient within timelines stipulated in the
facility policy and procedure manual and in accordance with DCF 65-D30
licensing standards.
- Responsible for assuring that arrangements are made for
follow-up services that reflect the findings or risk factors discovered
during assessments.
- Ensure that patients are referred to specialists when
the medical needs of a patient cannot be met by the
providers of the addiction treatment center.
- Supervise detoxification treatment services that
includes programs, services, functions, and resources necessary to meet
the addiction treatment requirements all patients.
- Develop, implement, and monitor drug specific
detoxification protocols.
- Administrative oversight of the agency medical and
pharmacological treatment.
- Monitor and ensure the provision of all prescribed drugs
and medically necessary pharmaceutical services. Physician shall ensure
pharmaceutical services and prescription drugs are in accordance with all
Federal and State laws and regulations including, but not limited to the
Florida State Board of Pharmacy Laws and Regulations and the Florida Drug
Enforcement Agency.
- Ensure that drug utilization reviews are appropriately
conducted and documented as outlined in the policy and procedure manual
and to specifically indicate the use/do not use abbreviations list and
look alike/sound alike medications.
- Implement and maintain policies and procedures to ensure
the Patients' right to confidentiality of medical information. Ensure that
patient's rights and responsibilities are communicated to patients and
providers.
- Ability to maintain quality, safety and infection
control standards.
- Knowledge of related accreditation and certification
requirements.
- Knowledge of addictions, addiction treatment, and
co-occurring psychiatric disorders treatment.
- Perform other duties
as assigned.

Required Education and Experience
- Graduate of an accredited medical school.
- Psychiatrist (Physician) licensed in the
State of Florida.
- 5 years
minimum in a supervisory position
- Familiarity
with Addiction Medicine, CARF, local state authorities and other indicated
healthcare standards are necessary
- A minimum of two
(2) years' leadership experience is preferred
