Controller

POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Controller will ensure that Phoenix House Programs of Florida Nonprofit has the systems and procedures in place to support effective program implementation and conduct flawless audits. The Controller will work closely with program leaders and their staff, not only to educate them regarding finance and accounting procedures but also to explore how the finance function can support program operations. In addition, s/he will partner with the CFO, senior leadership, and the human resources (HR) staff to enhance and better integrate finance and HR functions.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Financial Reporting: Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, including income statement, balance sheet, and cash flow statements.
    • Budgeting & Forecasting: Collaborate with senior management to prepare and manage annual budgets and forecasts.
    • Accounting: Perform day-to-day accounting functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger entries.
    • Compliance & Audits: Ensure compliance with GAAP and regulatory requirements. Coordinate the annual audit process, including preparing schedules and working with external auditors.
    • Grant Management: Track and report on restricted and unrestricted grant funding, ensuring compliance with grant terms and conditions.
    • Internal Controls: Implement and monitor internal controls to ensure the integrity of financial operations and minimize risks.
    • Cash Flow Management: Perform, monitor and manage the organization's cash flow to ensure financial stability.
    • Financial Analysis: Provide regular analysis and insights on financial performance to help guide decision-making.

    REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

    ** Must have Non-profit healthcare experience **

    Responsible for managing a an Eight figure annual budget. Knowledge of third party billing (Insurance, Medicaid, Etc.)

    • Coordinating audit activities and managing reporting, budget development and analysis, accounts payable and receivable, general ledger, payroll, and accounting for investments
    • Experience working with third party vendors (software, services)
    • Experience in grants management pertaining to compliance and reporting of government, corporate and foundation grants is essential.

    REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

    • Bachelor's degree in Accounting is required; MBA and/or CPA a plus.
    • Ten years of financial management experience, Non-Profit organization experience is required
    • CPA preferred.

    LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:  CPA preferred.
